The Argument for Monitoring Radioactivity on the West Coast

Anxieties over the arrival of nuclear radiation from Fukushima are mounting, according to Forum on Energy contributor Ken Buesseler, PhD, a marine radiologist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Buesseler has been using funding that he crowdsourced from interested parties to monitor the low levels of radiation in ocean samples. In a recent letter to The New York Times, Buesseler said that it is now time for the U.S. government to help with the collection of data on whether Fukushima’s radiation is harmful to California’s waters.
