We as part of the U.S. industry are implementing valuable lessons in the aftermath of Fukushima, through inspections and verifications, additional layers of backup safety equipment and a focus on the ability to cope with on-site power loss and flooding. We will continue to support our Japanese friends while taking further proactive steps that demonstrate safety has and always will be our number one priority.
Nuclear power remains the best option for generating safe, reliable, cost-effective and efficient base load electricity without emitting greenhouse gases, and most countries recognize this. The U.S. has just approved the first new nuclear power plant licenses in 30 years, more than 60 reactors are under construction around the world, and 44 countries around the world are looking at new nuclear generation as a key element of their base load generation.
